AI Skills Academy

Overview

As a hybrid cloud and AI company, IBM is looking to the future in both technologies to help clients reach their organizational goals. As a leader in the AI field, IBM needs all employees to be conversant and knowledgeable in AI, whether the employee is client-facing or not.

Solution

The AI Skills Academy was launched in 2018 to help IBM grow the skills of their workforce and address the scarcity of hybrid cloud and AI skills available in the marketplace. The AI Skills Academy has become the main AI learning portal for all IBM technical and non-technical roles. There is a curriculum available for every individual employed at IBM as well as opportunities for learners, technical and non-technical, to earn associate, professional, and advanced skill level digital credentials in the form of Credly badges.

Non-technical role enablement is comprised of soft skills for project managers, leaders, consultants, and business analysts. Technical role learning is comprised of individuals in roles such data scientists, data engineers, solution architects, analysts, and developers.

My role

I was the overall curriculum manager for the AI Skills Academy. My responsibilities included:

SkillsBuild eLearning Offerings

Overview

IBM SkillsBuild is designed to help students around the globe begin their career exploration with free digital learning on cutting-edge technology and workplace skills. The Make an Impact with Data Analytics and Make an Impact with AI courses are two of many learning offerings available on IBM SkillsBuild.

Solution

These courses are intended for young adults interested in technology and sustainability. Learners explore how data analytics and AI can organize facts to reveal information about sustainability issues and how organizations can predict climate risk and environmental problems, prevent disasters, solve mysteries of food production, and even help reduce deforestation.

The courses are part of the Fundamentals of Sustainability series of courses. Once learners complete all of the courses, they are awarded a Credly badge. These courses were programmed in Articulate Rise and Storyline.

My role

I was the lead instructional designer responsible for review of the final design, writing the storyboards, and implementing review changes.

Outcomes

In the first month of deployment, there were 62 Credly badges issued in 17 countries.

Trustworthy AI and AI Ethics

Overview

Trustworthy AI and AI ethics are of paramount importance in today's rapidly advancing technological landscape. It is crucial because AI systems are increasingly integrated into various aspects of our lives, influencing decisions that impact individuals, communities, and societies as a whole.

The Trustworthy AI and AI Ethics badge covers the Principles for Trust and Transparency and the Pillars of Trust. Learners will gain knowledge around mitigating bias in AI and assess AI ethics risks. The badge earner is also able to recognize the four key methods for implementing trustworthy AI solutions while using IBM's AI tools.

My role

I was the lead instructional designer leading a team of instructional designers through the design and development process. I was responsible for approving the course design, reviewing the courses, and deploying the courses in the Learning Management System (LMS).

Outcomes

The Trustworthy AI and AI Ethics badge is one of the most popular badges at IBM. In the first quarter after launch, 2,170 learners earned the Trustworthy AI and AI Ethics badge. Currently, the Trustworthy AI and AI Ethics badge is the 7th most popular badge at IBM, with approximately 2,300 badges in the total badge catalog.

Introduction to Shiftwork

Overview
Shift work refers to a work schedule that deviates from the traditional 9-to-5 day, typically involving working hours during evenings, nights, or rotating shifts.  My role
As the lead instructional designer, I was responsible for the design, development, and creation of several information manuals. I conducted numerous interviews with shift managers and workers to gather content.

Outcomes
The manual I wrote was distributed throughout the utility company as a guide to help workers and shift managers handle working during evenings, nights, and rotating shifts.
